General
The Untapped Admissions team is currently working with students both in-person and remotely for the current Fall admissions cycle, offering personalized guidance on personal statements, supplemental essays, tailored school searches, and application preparation.
With extensive experience counseling undergraduate and graduate students aged 17 to 40, Julian and his team have helped place applicants in a wide range of institutions—from elite undergraduate universities to graduate students applying to business and law school.
Julian’s tutoring background spans all ages and subjects. Julian worked as a SAT/ACT prep tutor for many years prior to college admissions writing, guided high schoolers through advanced math like trigonometry and calculus, and helped adults transition careers with GMAT/GRE prep for MBA programs. Julian has worked privately with families in Malibu, Santa Monica, and Los Angeles, as well as remotely with students in D.C., Boston, Texas, Northern California, and New York.
Beyond academics, Julian provides life coaching and college planning support for high school students, drawing from my own experience with mentorship to help students navigate their paths to success.
Every student begins with a free 30-minute consultation, where a college admission counselor assesses their academic background, personal history, and goals to ensure tailored college admissions guidance. Before our first session, students complete a preliminary admissions survey, helping our team create a customized strategy for their applications. The personal survey compiles overall background information, personal lessons/obstacles, major selection, extracurriculars, and leadership.
Our students often highlight our counselor’s ability to build collaborative, effective relationships, and many continue to seek our mentorship beyond college admissions for career growth. During the consultation, a college admissions counselor conducts a comprehensive evaluation of the student’s academic background and personal experiences, ensuring a strategic, individualized approach to the Common App, UC applications, and beyond.
Julian Shojaie, Esq., founder of Untapped Admissions, is more than just a college admissions expert—he’s a dedicated advocate for student success. A licensed attorney in Los Angeles, Julian’s academic journey began at UCLA, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology on a full-ride scholarship. He later attended Loyola Law School on scholarship, passing the California State Bar in 2022, and is now a soon-to-be UCLA MBA graduate. His background in law, strategic thinking, and persuasive writing gives him a unique ability to help students craft compelling college applications.
With 10+ years of college counseling experience and 16+ years in test preparation, Julian has helped students improve their SAT and ACT scores while guiding them through every step of the college and graduate admissions process, refining his expertise in personal storytelling and strategic application writing.
Julian has also received 100+ hours of specialized training to support students with disabilities and learning challenges. He actively takes creative writing courses, using his passion for storytelling to help students develop powerful, authentic voices in their personal statements. Under his guidance, students have gained admission to top undergraduate programs and graduate programs.
Through Untapped Admissions, Julian provides a holistic, results-driven approach to admissions, ensuring every student has the tools, confidence, and clarity to achieve their college and career goals.
When selecting a college counselor or instructor, always ask for writing samples of student’s accepted into top universities and past student recommendations. Experience alone doesn’t guarantee strong creative or persuasive writing skills—which are imperative for crafting compelling personal statements and supplemental essays.
With Julian’s legal and business background in persuasive brief writing and strategic business plans, Julian brings a high level of precision and strategy to the application process. Julian tailors his approach to each student’s unique goals and academic background, ensuring their essays stand out.
A consultant without a proven track record of successfully guiding undergraduate and graduate students through the writing process may not deliver the results you need. Our goal is to help students unlock their full potential—empowering them to achieve their academic and professional aspirations.
Our team has helped countless students craft compelling personal statements and supplemental essays for undergraduate and graduate admissions, including the Common Application, UC Applications, and other school applications such as Georgetown, Texas universities and the University of Washington.
In the recent Fall admissions cycle, I guided a student through the entire Common Application process, helping her apply to 20+ schools and revising 40+ essays. She earned a full-ride scholarship and is now attending her dream college.
More recently, I worked with a student who had only completed Algebra I and Geometry but wanted to take the SAT in just six to eight weeks of prep. Before starting test prep, I reviewed Algebra II/Trig, created a structured study plan, and held two to three weekly sessions. By March, she scored in the 92nd percentile on the SAT.
These are just a few examples of how I dedicate countless focused hours to helping students succeed. From initial evaluations to essay coaching and test prep, I provide the personalized support students need to achieve their college admissions goals.
Julian’s track record speaks for itself. His students have secured admissions to top universities with a record-setting acceptance rate for Fall 2022-2024. His students have been accepted to prestigious institutions, including:
